Bar Harbor Food & Wine Classic - September 5-12, 2008A celebration of wine, food and song…Excite your senses and savor the experience at one of New England’s premier wine festivals. Events include: Friday September 5: Kick-Off Grand Tasting Reception at the Bar Harbor Club 7-9:30pm Join us for the last hurrah of summer with an elegant evening of wine, jazz and food on the grounds of the historic Bar Harbor Club to kick-off the opening of the 2nd annual Bar Harbor Food and Wine Classic. The Grand Tasting will feature celebrity Maine chefs at cooking stations, dozens of wines and winery representatives, cheese makers and local wine retailers, all along the banks of beautiful Frenchman's Bay. Originally built in the 1930's, the Bar Harbor Club was once a private playground for the town's wealthiest summer residents. Now meticulously restored, the Tudor-styled building and terraced lawns are more glamorous than ever providing a unique seaside venue. Tickets for the Grand Tasting are limited and will sell quickly. Art in the Park - September 20-21, 2008Over 30 painters and photographers will display and sell their original works on the Village Green in Bar Harbor, corner of Main and Mt Desert Streets. 14th Annual Early Bird Sale and 1st Annual Bed Races - November 22, 2008 Come one, come all for the 1st Annual Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce Bed Races to be held following the Early Bird Sale on Saturday, November 22, 2008. The sale runs from 6-9am so set your alarm early to shop. Wear your PJs for extra discounts! Then, beginning at 10am, the decorated beds will parade from the Village Green down Main Street to Cottage. The races will be held on Cottage Street, between Main and Rodick, following the parade. Teams of 5 will race for prizes and bragging rights. 1st prize will be $500 in Bar Harbor gift certificates and 2nd prize will be $200 in Bar Harbor gift certificates. Trophies too! There will also be a “Dinner and a Movie” prize for Best Decorated Bed courtesy of the Criterion Theatre and Arts Center and The Thirsty Whale.
